I have a weakness. Songs that combine different genres (such as rap with an Adele sample) are a bit addicting to me. Last summer, I got excited any time B.O.B’s Airplanes ft. Hayley Williams came on the radio, long after a whiny chorus of “overplayed” could be heard each time the song began. It was my ringtone for way too long and, you know what? I still like that song. Then again, maybe I just like songs that sample redheaded artists.
Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, picked his stage name from Wu-Tang Clan name generator and only turns to music as a side project. Focusing most of his time as an actor, writer and comedian, Glover has landed a role in NBC’s Community and is also a writer for 30 Rock.
While I don’t believe Adele needs much of an introduction, I’ll summarize her briefly. This 22-year-old English singer-songwriter has won Grammy’s, BRIT Awards and held the #1 spot on the Billboard charts in the UK and US for weeks on end. She was discovered on MySpace after posting a 3 song demo. (What’s MySpace?) Basically, the girl is full of talent and her live performances are just as amazing as those recorded in a studio.
What should you take from this? There’s a whole lot of talent packed into 4:41. Also, you may hear “ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ahhh, ah ah ah ah ah ah ahhh” in your head for the rest of the day. You’ve been warned.
Shoutout to Wiki Leaks for the suggestion.
